After criticism from opposition parties over ‘selective accountability’ of politicians, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chief has says ‘threats’ won’t deter the Bureau from performing its duties.
Javed Iqbal made the remarks during his visit to the NAB office in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa where he was apprised about the anti-graft body’s performance in the province.
However, the NAB chief did not respond to the charge that the Bureau is partial against some political parties and that it has yet to take up with seriousness cases involving retired army men and judges.
Though, he made a generic statement claiming that all corruption cases would be disposed off on priority basis.
The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) recently claimed that NAB was being used as an instrument for political victimisation of opposition parties.
According to Iqbal, as many as 440 references have been filed by NAB this year so far. He said all mega corruption cases will reach their logical conclusion soon.
Earlier on Monday, commenting on the accountability court’s verdict against Nawaz Sharif, National Party chief Mir Hasil Bizenjo said that the decision was made at the behest of ‘unseen forces’.
According to Bizinjo, the verdict was pre-planned and aimed at sidelining 60 to 70 politicians through NAB in the next two years.
